Surface Finish Isn’t Just About Looks<\/h2>\n

When choosing a titanium EDC tool, the surface finish affects three things: how it looks, how it feels, and how it ages<\/strong>. A mirror-polished keychain and a stonewash keychain are the same titanium \u2014 but they behave completely differently in your pocket.<\/p>\n

How it’s made:<\/strong> Parts tumbled with ceramic media for 2-4 hours. Uniform micro-indentations scatter light, creating a matte texture.Feel:<\/strong> Slightly textured \u2014 more grip than polished, less than meteorite crater. PVD \/ DLC<\/h2>\n

How it’s made:<\/strong> Vacuum chamber, ion bombardment deposits 1-5\u03bcm film. DLC = black (HV 2000-4000 hardness). TiN = gold. TiAlN = rose gold.Feel:<\/strong> Smoother than bare titanium. Glass-like.Aging:<\/strong> Excellent when intact \u2014 coating is harder than titanium. But if breached, the contrast is visible. Anodized<\/h2>\n

How it’s made:<\/strong> Electrochemical process \u2014 part as anode in electrolyte. Meteorite Crater<\/h2>\n
